Featured Event for Make Music Detroit 2018: Street Studios

This event, organized with Found Sound Nation and HARMAN, brings world-class DJs and producers onto the streets for Make Music Day, setting up their mobile recording studios in front of art galleries, on downtown plazas, and in parks. In one afternoon, producers invite passersby from the community to join in a completely improvised music creation session. At the end of the day, each producer mixes down one track, using only the material recorded on-site, to share the sounds of their city with the world. Stop by and add your music to the celebration!

Producers: Christopher Marianetti and Sacramento Knoxx
 
Christopher Marianetti is a composer and educator from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Chris co-founded and co-runs Found Sound Nation, a collective of artists who who use music to inspire and build community. He is a co-director of OneBeat, a music diplomacy initiative, now in its sixth year in partnership with the US State Department’s ECA, bringing together musicians, social entrepreneurs, and artistic innovators from around the world. His work has been presented at the MATA Festival, Lucerne Festival, Gaudeamus, International Symposium on Electronic Art, and MASS MoCA, among others. With Found Sound Nation, Chris has led music labs in South Africa, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Zimbabwe, Italy, and Switzerland, and served as a teaching artist with the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall. Chris is a MacDowell Colony Fellow, and a PopTech Social Innovation Fellows.

Sacramento Knoxx, a hardworking interdisciplinary artist with strong Detroit roots, has built community concerts and workshops that engaged many audiences in public spaces all around the city. Currently he travels nationally and internationally sharing interactive music performances, blending captured moments in life & creative imagery through large projection motion graphics. Building from raw experience and grit, his works send vibrations to help assemble the worlds we want to live in. In addition to creating these dynamic storytelling installations, he creates documentary film and music video encapsulating the experience of struggle and celebration of diverse layers of communities.
